What Sacrifice Looks Like for High Achievers: Lessons from the Elite on Balancing Life and Business

Rather than trying to juggle different priorities, it's essential to move through various periods by examining what the priorities are and focusing on the projects that need attention during those times. What does moving at ten x speed mean to you?

I've always liked addressing this question. Being methodical and detail-oriented is something everyone aims for, irrespective of the industry. Speed naturally comes with practice and expertise. However, maintaining that speed is crucial as everyone around you is moving quickly, too.

The Importance of Moving Quickly and Thoughtfully

To be thoughtful, fast, and continuously moving at a high rate is vital because:

  • It's the same pace your clients are moving at.

  • Your customers are moving at that pace.

  • Your partners are moving at that pace.

If you can consistently stay on your front foot and lead the edge, you'll always have that advantage.

Staying Balanced

Can you talk about the experience of being "on" all the time and its impact?

Finding a balance in life—between work, play, and family— is crucial. Many believe juggling everything simultaneously is possible, but often it involves fluctuating and balancing priorities. Sometimes work will take precedence; other times, family will. The key is to fully commit to those priorities at given times.

Forward Approach in Insurance

Taking a forward look is always significant. While many people operate decently on a day-to-day basis, those making the real impact consider how their decisions today will influence the next 5, 10, or even 20 years.

Authenticity and Uniqueness

Everyone comes with unique experiences. Expressing your individuality and staying true to yourself often resonates with others at a similar level, ultimately finding your champions and creating rock-solid alignments.

"The more you show your individual colors, your successes, what you enjoy and what you don't, the truer you are to yourself, and that looks like authenticity."

Saying No to Opportunities

When starting, it's all about finding and seizing opportunities. As you progress, it's essential to curate and tailor the ones that align with your values and strengths. Out of many opportunities, identifying the few that truly resonate with your goals is more beneficial than overstretching yourself.

Growing Out of Relationships and Opportunities

Just because a relationship or business was successful in the past doesn't guarantee its future success. Both parties need to move at the same pace with aligned priorities. As people and businesses evolve, their needs and priorities may change, making it necessary to re-evaluate the alignment.

Following Up Consistently

Whether starting out or at any stage in your career, consistently following up is crucial. Being persistent and providing continuous value ensures maintaining a top-of-mind presence. This consistency is essential as opportunities may arise unexpectedly, and your proactive approach can make a significant difference.

Lessons from Netflix’s Dream Academy

I recently watched Netflix’s Dream Academy, showcasing the passion and sacrifices these young ladies make. It's a dance show where some of the best girls worldwide compete for a spot in an elite K-pop group.

Their dedication, often considered crazy by outsiders, mirrors the sacrifices high achievers and entrepreneurs make. For instance, a girl from Hawaii flies every weekend to train and returns to her regular life by Sunday. These sacrifices, though extreme for some, are necessary for those striving for elite performance.

This "Beyond Insurance" conversation has been incredibly insightful. It’s essential to balance priorities, maintain speed and thoughtfulness, take a forward-looking approach, and consistently follow up in the insurance field. These strategies are applicable across various industries, ensuring continuous growth and success.

"Insurance that covers you beyond your needs."

Stay authentic, seize the right opportunities, and remember that growth often involves sacrifices and pain.
